CS2 Risk Modelling & Survival Analysis builds on CS1 and introduces advanced statistical techniques for modeling risks, survival times, and dependencies. It equips students to handle complex insurance, healthcare, and financial datasets, with strong applications in life insurance, pensions, health, and risk management. This paper develops a grounding in the principles and methods required to model uncertain future events, mainly focusing on understanding and applying survival models and stochastic processes to analyse life insurance, pensions, and other financial risks. Alongside this, the related and required understanding of credibility theory, time series, and simulation techniques to model and quantify risk are also developed. It is available through both the institutes, the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI) and the UK-based Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA).

Shivangee Agarwal is a Qualified Actuary with a Master’s in Data and Business Analytics from IIM Indore. She secured All India Rank 1 in CT7 – Business Economics and holds a B.Com (Hons in Finance) from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata. Over 8+ years, she has taught 3000+ students in Actuarial and Data Analytics domain, becoming a favourite coach for CS2, CB2, CP2, and CP3 papers. She has expertise in Excel and R Programming. Her inspiring journey led her to conduct workshops and lectures at various colleges like Lady Shri Ram College, St. Xavier’s College, SRCC, Mithibai College, IIM Indore and IBS Hyderabad.
Siddharth Sonthalia graduated in economics from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata in 2022. He has experience in using Actuarial modelling softwares and close to 4 years of experience in the Life Insurance domain. He is a member of the IFoA and is a Qualified Actuary. He is also a faculty at the Christ University, Bangalore for their Masters in Actuarial Sciences Programme.
Gaurav Kumar Patwary is a risk management professional with over two years of experience in model risk management for quantitative finance-based models used in the Asset Management division of a multinational bank. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, and a Master’s degree in Economics from Delhi School of Economics. Additionally, he has cleared 8 out of 13 actuarial papers from the IAI. During his work, he has also gained hands-on experience in Python, developing codes to test and challenge various aspects of models, further enhancing his technical skillset. His academic background and industry experience provide a strong foundation in Statistics, Economics, and Finance.
