Introduction to Advanced Short-Term Actuarial Mathematics (ASTAM) exam

ASTAM Exam Summary

Exam Format:

$\bullet \quad$ Length: Three-hour exam

$\bullet \quad$ Question Type: Six questions, worth a total of 60 points

$\bullet \quad$ Administration: Computer-based test (CBT) taken at Prometric testing centers.

$\bullet \quad$ Delivery: Questions are displayed on the computer. Candidates are also provided with an Excel Workbook that will contain one question.

Answering the Questions:

$\bullet \quad$ Five questions: Answered in pen in exam answer booklets provided by Prometric. Excel Tables can be used for calculations, but only the answers provided in the exam answer booklet will be graded.

$\bullet \quad$ One question: Answered directly in the provided Excel Workbook. Only the information within the Excel Workbook will be graded. Scratch paper can be used for rough notes, but nothing written on the scratch paper will be graded.

Exam Submission:

$\bullet \quad$ At the end of the exam, candidates will upload their completed Excel Workbook for grading the Excel question and will submit their exam answer booklets to Prometric to forward to the SOA for grading the questions answered in the answer booklets.

Prerequisites:

$\bullet \quad$ Knowledge of FM, P, and FAM exams: A strong understanding of the concepts covered in the Financial Mathematics (FM), Probability (P), and Fundamentals of Actuarial Mathematics (FAM) exams is assumed.

$\bullet \quad$ Mathematical Statistics VEE material: Knowledge of the Mathematical Statistics Validation by Educational Experience (VEE) material is also assumed.
