Delhi Actuarial AI Hackathon 2026: Highlights, Teams & Results

Actuators Educational Institute conducted its first ever Actuarial AI Hackathon.

With 12 teams in attendance, the purpose of the hackathon was to bring together actuarial science, artificial intelligence, data and real-world problem-solving in a one-day competitive learning experience.

Designed to encourage practical problem-solving, analytical thinking and collaboration, the hackathon challenged participants to approach real-world actuarial problems, work with data and develop solutions within a limited timeframe. The event provided a platform for students to apply their knowledge beyond traditional academic settings and explore how emerging technologies can support actuarial decision-making.

The hackathon was supported by the Society of Actuaries (SOA) as its Official Learning Partner. At Actuators Educational Institute, we share SOA’s commitment to promoting actuarial awareness and inspiring young students and professionals to explore the actuarial profession. Through initiatives like this hackathon, we aim to spark curiosity, encourage innovation, and help aspiring actuaries discover the opportunities that lie at the intersection of actuarial science, data and artificial intelligence.

We are grateful for this association and the opportunity to contribute to the development of the actuarial community through practical, learning-focused initiatives.

Five Challenge Tracks. One Goal: Practical Problem-Solving.

Participants worked on challenges across five broad areas of actuarial practice and analytics:

01. Pricing

Exploring how data and analytical techniques can support risk assessment, premium determination and pricing decisions.

02. Claims

Investigating claims-related data to identify patterns, understand claim behaviour and develop useful analytical insights.

03. Persistency

Exploring customer retention, policy continuation and the factors that may influence persistency.

04. Reserving

Applying analytical thinking to reserving-related problems and examining how data can support the estimation of future liabilities.

05. Risk Mitigation

Applying data-driven approaches to understand the impact of climate change, evaluate portfolios and recommend long-term climate risk strategies.

From Data to Practical Insights

Each team developed its approach based on the assigned problem statement and supporting dataset. The use of AI was permitted. The challenges encouraged participants to think critically, work collaboratively and translate analytical findings into practical recommendations.

Recognising Outstanding Solutions

The hackathon recognised teams for their work in addressing the assigned challenges. Evaluation focused on the quality of the technical approach, assumptions and limitations, model accuracy and validation, commercial judgement, communication and team ownership.

These criteria reflected an important principle of actuarial practice: a strong solution must be technically sound, but it must also be explainable, appropriately validated and useful for decision-making.

Thank You to Everyone Who Made It Possible

An event of this nature depends on the collective efforts of many people. We extend our sincere thanks to the participating students for their enthusiasm, teamwork and commitment throughout the challenge.

We also acknowledge the qualified actuarial mentors, judges and organising team whose guidance and efforts helped bring the event together.

Most importantly, we hope the experience encouraged participants to approach unfamiliar problems with curiosity, think critically about data and recognise the value of combining technical skills with sound judgement.

The Journey Continues: Mumbai Edition – 27 February, 2027
