IAI Revises India Fellowship Seminar Format in 2026: What Actuaries and Students Need to Know
The Institute of Actuaries of India has recently updated its Fellowship Requirements for candidates seeking fellowship from the IAI Examination Route.

What did the previous IFS requirements involve?
Under the previous IFS Framework, a candidate was supposed to fulfil the following criteria to be eligible for admission as a Fellow Member of the Institute of Actuaries of India (FIAI):
$\bullet \quad$Complete all 13 exams.
$\bullet \quad$Have at least 3 years of relevant work experience.
$\bullet \quad$Attend the 2-day India Fellowship Seminar.
$\bullet \quad$Successfully pass the assessment during IFS by displaying their understanding of the subject, presentation capability and professional maturity.
What does the revised IFS framework entail?
Under the new guidelines released by the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI), a significant change has been introduced to the final stage of the Fellowship qualification process: The India Fellowship Seminar.
To qualify for admission as a Fellow Member of the Institute of Actuaries of India (FIAI), candidates must fulfil the following criteria:
$\bullet \quad$Complete all 13 exams.
$\bullet \quad$Have at least 3 years of relevant work experience.
$\bullet \quad$Complete the Online Professionalism Multiple Choice Question Examination conducted by IAI. Note that candidates can register for the India Fellowship Seminar only after completing the Professionalism MCQ Examination. Therefore, this becomes a mandatory step in your journey to qualification.*
$\bullet \quad$Mandatorily attend the 1-day India Fellowship Seminar, where your attendance is tracked by IAI. **
*Further details about the MCQ Exam, including syllabus, exam dates, registration process, fees and other relevant details, will be shared by IAI later.
**Unlike the previous IFS Framework, candidates will not be assessed during the IFS to determine their eligibility for Fellowship.
Are Candidates Who Have Already Completed the IFS Required to Take the Professionalism MCQ Examination?
The candidates who have attended the 46th (or earlier) Indian Fellowship Seminar and have been successfully issued their Fellowship certificate are not required to appear for the MCQ Examination. However, the following must be kept in mind by these candidates:
$\bullet \quad$To ensure that their completion certificate is valid, they must pass their remaining exams within the next 3 (subsequent) diets post the IFS.
$\bullet \quad$They must be admitted as FIAI within 24 months, counted from the month immediately succeeding the month in which the IFS was conducted. If they are not admitted within this period, the Completion Certificate will no longer be valid, and they will be required to attend the IFS again after completing the Professionalism MCQ Examination.
The candidates who have not yet registered for the India Fellowship Seminar must note that successful completion of the Professionalism MCQ Examination is a prerequisite for registering for the IFS. Accordingly, candidates must complete this examination before registering for the seminar.
